Be On The Lookout For: How Robot Hoover Is Taking Over And What Can We Do About It

The Best Robot Hoover

The most effective robot hoover will vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure you regularly check your robot's brushes for hair tangled and large particles and wash them if required. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

robot vacuums cheap -designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
